Men noemt het ook wel de verborgen schat van de Peloponnesos. Het ligt 30 km ten noorden van Kalamata. Vanuit Villa FINIKI is het ongeveer 80 km, maar je rijdt er al snel 1 uur en 40 minuten op. Wij vinden Ancient Messini het mooiste van alle opgravingen op de Peloponnesos.

Je loopt zeker 2 uur door de opgravingen van deze oude Griekse stad uit de 4e eeuw v.Chr.. Er zijn mooie restanten van het theater, Asklepion, badhuis, stadion en gymnasium. Ze zijn druk bezig met restauratie en het ziet er allemaal veelbelovend uit. Het stadion is al voor een deel gerestaureerd en geeft een goed beeld van hoe zo iets er in het verleden uit moet hebben gezien.

Er is ook een klein museum. Daar zie je mooie bijna intacte beelden (kopieën). Het beeld van Hermes is 2.80 m hoog, heel imposant.

It is also called the hidden treasure of the Peloponnese. It is located 30 km north of Kalamata . From Villa FINIKI it is about 80 km, but you drive almost 1 hour and 40 minutes. We find Ancient Messini the best of all sights on the Peloponnese.

You walk for at least 2 hours through the excavations of this ancient Greek city from the 4th century BC. There are beautiful remnants of the theater, Asklepion, bathhouse, stadium and gymnasium. They are busy with restoration and it all looks promising. The stadium has already been partially restored and gives a good impression of how something like this must have looked like in the past.

There is also a small museum. There you see beautiful almost intact images (copies). The image of Hermes is 2.80 m high, very impressive.
