The surrounding area

Methoni is a historic town in the southwest of the Messinia department, 6 km from Villa FINIKI. The bay and sandy beach of Methoni is a much-visited holiday destination in the summer. Methoni has a cozy village center and is located between Finikounda and Pylos .

Here is one of the most impressive Venetian castles from the medieval period.
The castle was built on a peninsula in the 13th century. When you come from Finikounda ,
you will already see the peninsula with the imposing castle from far away.

Opposite the fortress is a cozy square on the beach with many terraces of the various cafes and taverns.
There is also a children’s playground and an information kiosk. The natural harbor of Methoni attracts more and more sailors, the bay gives a good shelter and the view is beautiful. From the harbor it is a short walk to the old town, so the many small shops there is still a nice Greek authentic atmosphere.
On the west coast you can enjoy a beautiful romantic sunset.

After the Greek war of independence in 1821, Ionis Kopodistrias was elected as the first governor of the new liberated Greece.
He has reorganized education. One of the first schools was The Kapodistrian School of Mutual Learning in Methoni (1831)
In 1951 the Kapodistrian school was designated as a historical monument.
In 2008 the school was renovated.
