De Peloponnesos - The Peloponnese

A cogwheel train runs through a very picturesque landscape, along the gorges of the Vouraïkos, which you cannot see from the road. It is no longer the old train of a few years ago, but still worth doing.

Kalavrita is een martelaarsstad;

Halfway the trail you reach Kato Zachlorou, from there you can walk to the Mega Spileon monastery (3 km along a donkey trail). The small station of Kato Zachlorou is nice to see and worth a break.The Mega Spileon monastery was set on fire by the Germans in 1943 and then rebuilt. The entrance is a beautiful copper gate from 1800. Behind a silver door with a striking finely worked out Virgin, you will find the wax statue of the black Madonna. There is also a beautiful carved silver crown that comes from Russia. There is a serene silence, there are still fathers walking around, correct clothing is required. In short: really worth it!
