Loutraki staat bekend om het mineraalwater uit de bergen, zuiver drinkwater, de natuurlijke bronnen en de therapeutische baden in Spa of gezondheidscentra.

Loutraki is known for the mineral water from the mountains, pure drinking water, the natural springs and the therapeutic baths in Spa or health centers.

Loutraki ligt op het vasteland van Griekenland op circa 105 kilometer van het vliegveld Athene en is deel van het departement Korinthe. De stad ligt bij de noordelijke ingang van het Kanaal van Korinthe en je kunt vanaf hier een tocht door het Kanaal van Korinthe maken.

Warmwaterbronnen
Vroeger heette de stad Thermae naar de aanwezige warmwaterbronnen.  Op het einde van de boulevard, naast de oorspronkelijke bron, is een aangelegde waterval met restaurant.

Casino en boulevard
In Loutraki is een groot casino aanwezig en een mooie en gezellige boulevard van 4 km. Ook in de avonduren kun je je prima vermaken in Loutraki. Na het zien van de prachtige zonsondergang kun je langs de lange boulevard heerlijk eten of een drankje nemen bij een van de talloze tavernes, restaurants en bars. In augustus en in de weekenden komen hier veel Grieken en kan het best druk zijn.

Vouliagmeni meer (het blauwe meer)
Ongeveer 12 km van Loutraki vind je het Vouliagmeni meer (het blauwe meer); fantastisch mooie blauwe lagune waar je heerlijk kunt relaxen en vis eten.

Klooster van de Osios Patapios
is een van de meest beroemde en vereerde Orthodoxe heiligdommen van Griekenland, staat op de UNESCO werelderfgoedlijst.
Het klooster ligt op ongeveer 14 km van het centrum van Loutraki op de hellingen van de schilderachtige Gerania berg op 650-700 m. hoogte. Alleen voor het uitzicht is het al de moeite om er heen te rijden.
Het klooster dankte zijn rijkdom aan de relieken van Osios Loukas. Men geloofde dat je zou kunnen genezen door naast zijn overblijfselen te slapen en men wilde daarvoor flink betalen.

Het kloostercomplex omvat:

  • De Mariakerk (de Theotokos): de eerstgebouwde kerk.
  • Het Katholikon, gewijd aan Hosios Loukas: dit was de bekendste kerk van het complex.
  • Het refectorium, oftewel de eetzaal: werd tegelijk met de Grafkerk gebouwd en wordt nu als beeldhouwmuseum gebruikt.
  • De crypte van Sint Barbera, onder de Katholikon. Dit is de plaats waar Osios Loukas begraven zou liggen.
  • De klokkentoren

Tip:

Loutraki is located on mainland Greece at approximately 105 kilometers from Athens airport and is part of the Corinthian department. The city is located at the northern entrance of the Corinth Canal and you can make a trip through the Corinth Canal from here.

Hot springs
In the past, the city was called Thermae after the hot springs. At the end of the boulevard, next to the original source, is a landscaped waterfall with restaurant.

Casino and boulevard
In Loutraki there is a large casino and a beautiful and pleasant boulevard of 4 km. You can also enjoy yourself in Loutraki in the evenings. After seeing the beautiful sunset you can enjoy a delicious meal along the long boulevard or have a drink at one of the numerous taverns, restaurants and bars. Many Greeks come here in August and on weekends and it can be quite busy.

Vouliagmeni lake (the blue lake)
About 12 km from Loutraki you will find the Vouliagmeni lake (the blue lake); fantastically beautiful blue lagoon where you can relax and eat fish.

Monastery of Osios Patapios
is one of the most famous and revered Orthodox shrines of Greece, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The monastery is about 14 km from the center of Loutraki on the slopes of the picturesque Gerania mountain at 650-700 m. Height. Only for the view it is worthwhile to drive there.
The monastery owes its wealth to the relics of Osios Loukas. It was believed that you could heal by sleeping next to his remains and they wanted to pay a lot for it.

The monastery complex includes:

  • St Mary’s Church (the Theotokos): the first-built church.
  • The Katholikon, dedicated to Hosios Loukas: this was the most famous church of the complex.
  • The refectory, or the dining room, was built at the same time as the Grave Church and is now used as a sculpture museum.
  • The crypt of Sint Barbera, under the Katholikon. This is the place where Osios Loukas would be buried.
  • The clock tower
