Rio is nine kilometers from Patras and is best known for its Rio-Antirrio bridge with a length of over 2,250 meters and a width of 28 meters.
The official name of the bridge is Charilaos Trikoupis bridge.

€ 6,50 in 2019, personen gratis).

The Rio-Antirro bridge
On August 7, 2004, a week before the Olympic Games, the first people were allowed to cross the entire bridge officially.
The bridge is the second connecting point of the Peloponnese with the mainland.
The other connection with the mainland is the Korinthos bridge.
It is the longest cable-stayed bridge in Europe with multiple spans and the second longest in the world. Today it is increasingly becoming an important link in the Greek road network. In total, the project cost around 630 million euros, especially because it is prepared for earthquakes and the fact that the Gulf of Corinth is 3 centimeters wider each year.
The Rio-Antirro bridge is illuminated at the weekend (in high season) with beautiful blue lights.

The toll costs are: car € 13.50 (2019). A cheaper way to cross the Gulf of Corinth here is by ferry (15 min. € 6.50 in 2019, people free). The ferries sail almost along the bridge to the other side and you can make beautiful pictures of the bridge too!
Walking across the bridge is a great experience and free. There are protected hiking trails on both sides of the bridge. You can reach this via stairs on the Rio and the Antirio coast or from parking places near the toll square.

Hotels, restaurants and a casino
There are various hotels, restaurants and a casino in Rio and the bridge has made it into a surprisingly nice place.
In the old center you will find nice typical Greek eateries, on the boulevard overlooking the bridge you will find various modern food and beverage outlets.

On the boulevard: bar, more modern: Distinto bar restaurant
