This full moon walk takes us to the top of the Profitis Ilias in Chandrinou, with a beautiful sunset above the bay of Pylos in the west and the moon appearing above the mountains in the east.

This full moon walk takes us to the top of the Profitis Ilias in Chandrinou, with a beautiful sunset above the bay of Pylos in the west and the moon appearing above the mountains in the east.

We start from the plateia of Chandrinou and walk through the village to walk to the top of the mountain at 620 m.
We can take the monopati of 1,5 km or the wide path of 3 km which is more easy to walk. Of course we walk up, but also the monopati is not really difficult. Along the way we enjoy the view of the vast plain and the bay of Pylos. While we rest at the top of the church we can see the sun sink into the sea in the west. We have a panoramic view here; in the west the bay of Pylos, in the east the peaks of the Taygetos mountains with at the bottom Kalamata, in the south the Likhodimo mountain and in the north the mountains of Maglavas. Then we have to wait to see that beautiful orange sphere appear above the mountains. Bring some warm clothes, because it can get quite cold at the top. In the moonlight (and a flashlight) we walk downstairs where we can have a drink on the plateia at the kafenion.

The start time depends on the sunset and moon rise; in principle we start 1.5 hours before the sunset. (golden hour)
(book at least 2 days in advance).
With a lot of clouds or rain the walk does not continue.
