In de omgeving - In the area

The Neda river is meandering in a beautiful setting along Greek villages.

The Neda river originates in the mountains of Mount Lykeo (Lykaio) and runs from Neda to Giannitioschori, a place on the west coast of the Peloponnese, between Kalo Nero and Zacharo. Remarkable for Greece, this river has a female name, Neda. According to the myth when Rhea gave birth to Zeus, she left the care of the baby to the nymph Neda. Out of gratitude for the care of the nymph, Rhea gave the river in which the baby was washed the name Neda.

The Neda river is situated in a beautiful area winding along the villages Kakaletri, Mavromati, Kypselia, Figalia, Platania, Stomio, Marmaro, Karyes, Fonissa and ends in Giannitsochori. At Platania (98 km from Villa FINIKI) the Neda River forms two impressive high waterfalls.

At Stomio the river flows through a cave. The best time to walk in the area is in the summer months. During the rest of the year it is usually not possible to walk along the river due to the bubbling river water.

In the early spring there can already be walked, but it is very cool in the mountains. In any case, it is a walk in a rough area.

Tips:
Good to combine with Kyparissia

How do you get there?
You drive from Kiparissia towards Zacharo and cross the bridge over the Neda river. Just before the village of Kalo Nero, take the exit to the right and drive up to the village of Platania. Is well marked on the signs. There is a good network of marked paths for walking or cycling.

The drive through the lush valley of Neda and along the mountain villages is beautiful. After passing the village of Platania, turn left at the sign waterfalls. The road turns into a narrow dirt road and descends steeply into the valley. There is a parking lot about 1 km before the end of the road at the stone bridge over the Neda. If you come with the camper, I strongly advise you to park the road at the end of the road. Maybe also more fun walking.

The walk to the waterfall itself starts from the stone bridge over the river and is quite easy. After about 1 km you reach the first smaller waterfall with a small lake with amazing turquoise water and a wooden bridge over the river and a little further the main waterfall. The water has amazing colors and is irresistibly tempting to take a refreshing dip. For the more adventurous types there are some fixed ropes in the river and in the waterfall to further explore the riverbed. Above the waterfalls is a beautiful small stone church Panagia glued to the cliff.
